Hey, guys! I am really excited to talk about the twelve books that I read in the month of October. I am really happy with the amount that I read this month. I participated in three readathons, which were Readathon By Zoe: Halloween Edition, the Spookathon and Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon. I conquered all the readathons, and as a result, I ended up reading quite a few books, so let’s go ahead and get into them!
The first book I read in October was The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee.
This is the first book in a companion series with this first book following Monty while the next one is to be following Monty’s sister Felicity, I believe. But this book is about Monty who is a bisexual aristocrat who enjoys gambling, sex, and boys a little too much for this time period, but he goes on his grand tour of the continent with his sister and his best friend Percy, who he also happens to be in love with. This book was so good! I listened to this via audiobook, which I definitely recommend because it is narrated by Christian Coulson who portrayed Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. He just does a really fantastic job of portraying all of the characters in different ways, and it just made me enjoy the book even more. I listened to the audiobook with my best friend Emily, which also just made for a more fun reading experience. I just really thoroughly enjoyed this novel, and I did post a review, but I ended up giving it 5/5 stars.
The next book I read was Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.
This is a Halloween classic that I read during the Readathon By Zoe: Halloween Edition that happened on Saturday, October 14. This was the first time I had ever read this story, and I am so glad I did because I ended up really enjoying it. If you are unaware of what exactly this story is about, we follow Victor Frankenstein who decides he wants to create something living, but he really isn’t prepared for the results of messing with nature. It is just a really good book that makes you think about a lot of things. I’m being very vague, but if you are curious as to what my full thoughts are, feel free to check out my review. I did end up giving this book 4/5 stars.
The next book I read was This Monstrous Thing by Mackenzi Lee.
This is Mackenzi Lee’s debut novel, and after reading The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, I just knew I had to read more from her, so I got my hands on this, and I think I loved this even more than the first book I read by her. This is such a Halloween book, and I also read this during the Readathon By Zoe. This is a Frankenstein retelling with fantasy and steampunk thrown in, and it was literally my everything. This is easily my favorite thing that I read this month, and it was just so amazing. You could clearly see that Lee did her homework with this one, and it was such an action-packed, amazing retelling. I just loved it so freaking much. It was everything I wanted and more. My review is a bit more coherent, but I did give this 5/5 stars because it was absolutely fantabulous!
The next three books I read are a trilogy, and that is The Forbidden Game trilogy by L.J. Smith.
This trilogy consists of The Hunter, The Chase, and The Kill, and this was a reread for me. I did read this during the Spookathon that lasted from October 16-22. I read this back in high school, and it creeped me out so much that I was wondering if it would still be able to do that all these years later, so I reread it, and it still creeps the hell out of me. This is a series that follows these idiot teenagers as they play this game, and they actually get sucked into the game and have to live through their worst nightmares. Its super creepy, but in the best way possible. Back in high school, these books gave me nightmares. But my whole series review really breaks all of my thoughts down. I gave the first two books 5/5 stars and the final book 4/5 stars. I also did a series review for the trilogy. They were just as fantastic the second time around as the first!
The next five books I read were the last five books in Tales From the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare and friends.
This is a series that happens after the events of City of Heavenly Fire but before the events of Lady Midnight. I can’t tell you anything about this series without spoiling the end of City of Heavenly Fire, so all I am going to say is this novella series is absolutely fabulous, and I highly recommend that you read this series. I gave Pale Kings and Princes 5/5 stars, Bitter of Tongue 4.5/5 stars, The Fiery Trial 4.5/5 stars, Born to Endless Night 5/5 stars, and Angels Twice Descending 5/5 stars. My reviews for all of these novellas have been posted, and I am so happy I finally decided to read them.
The last book I read this month was Deadpool Vol. 1: Secret Invasion by Daniel Way and Steve Dillon, illustrated by Paco Medina.
This first volume of Deadpool, unfortunately, has resulted in me deciding I am not going to pick up any of the other comics or graphic novels. This just was trying to be funny, but it just kept missing the mark for me. I thought the movie was absolutely hilarious, and I loved it so much. I was just expecting to really love this since I loved the movie, and that just did not happen. I really liked the artwork, but the writing was not the best, and I really was not a big fan of the storyline. I ended up giving this 3.5/5 stars.
And there you have it! Those were all the books that I read in the month of October. I am really happy with all of the books that I read, and with the readathons that I participated in. But that is going to be it for this post today. Thank you all so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you next time!
