JUSTICE LEAGUE | MOVIE REVIEW & DISCUSSION

Hey, guys! I am super excited to talk about Justice League. I randomly decided to go see it in the theater with my girlfriend and best friend, and I did not hate it, but I definitely have a lot of issues with it. I personally do not recommend women–especially feminists–see this. I think most men with no knowledge of the original comic book characters and storylines could possibly enjoy this. Otherwise, you should probably avoid it unless you like watching mediocre movies. But let’s just go ahead and jump into my thoughts!

Synopsis:

“Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists newfound ally Diana Prince to face an even greater threat. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to recruit a team to stand against this newly awakened enemy. Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes — Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash — it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.”

My Thoughts:

This movie surprisingly was not a complete piece of trash. My expectations were pretty low, though, so to say it surpassed my expectations is not really saying much. I had heard that the movie was pretty bad, but I wanted to see the movie myself to form my own opinion. In the moment, I did think it was pretty decent. But after really thinking about it, I realized there were some things in the movie that really should have been fixed and cut out and changed, and I just really ended up not liking this movie at all.

I had some issues with the plot line because it was completely illogical. It is DC, so like I should have expected this, but this wasn’t really a downside for me as it is to be expected in DC movies. While watching the movie, I just kind of ignored the lack of logic in this plotline and just accepted that this was the way the world works, which is something you have to do while watching this movie because it just doesn’t make sense otherwise.

I also had a lot of issues with the sexism in this movie. Yes, Wonder Woman was in it, which was the whole reason I wanted to watch it. But the movie really did a disservice to her character, in my opinion. There was not a scene in this entire movie where she could be in a room and not talk about some man. It was really focused on her past relationship rather than how powerful and badass she is as Wonder Woman.

This movie also just really perpetuated this belief that everyone and everything is completely screwed without Superman. Like who needs the Justice League when you have Superman? I did not like that at all because I wanted it to show how powerful they all were as a team, including Wonder Woman, and it just did not do that. It just was a super sexist message that I didn’t appreciate or enjoy, so it was a really big reason I ended up not liking this movie.

There were a few good points in this movie, though. One of those is The Flash. I completely forgot he was in the Justice League, and it made me so freaking happy to see him in this because I love his character so much. He was portrayed by the guy who played Patrick in The Perks of Being a Wallflower movie adaptation, so it was absolutely amazing. His character was the comic relief in this movie, and every time that guy opened his mouth, I was dying of laughter. This movie had a really big selling point on the humor because The Flash was absolutely freaking hilarious!

This is just a little side note, but Aqua Man was in this movie, which I wasn’t expecting at all. I kind of forgot that he existed. And I didn’t care for his character at all from what I had heard from people who had read the comics. It wasn’t for any particular reason; he just seemed boring to me. But I loved his character in this movie for literally one reason and one reason only, and that reason is he was portrayed by one of the sexiest men alive, in my opinion.

Jason Momoa is the person who also portrayed Khal Drogo in the first season of Game of Thrones, and he spends most of this movie shirtless. I think we all appreciated this because he is just a beautiful human. I will say, though, that as hot as he is, he probably was not the right choice for Aqua Man because he is muscular, but not in the correct way. He is more in the bodybuilder kind of way versus the swimmer kind of way. But that was the only fault I really found in the portrayal of Aqua Man.

Overall, I had a lot of issues with this movie, but it was not completely terrible. There were some good parts to this movie, but they were few, unfortunately. As an average for this movie, I would probably give it a C+.

3-stars

  1. Good review. I think that the directors cut will be better. Like you said they cut out alot and it’s noticeable. I feel like Warner bros. Saw over 2 hours long and freaked and made them shorten it from PTSD from Batman vs superman. But I totally agree with the wonder woman thing but the depowered all the character besides superman in my opinion.
