Hey, guys! I am super excited to talk about a book that I personally really enjoyed, and that is Unlearned by Haley Pierce. This is a book that was sent to me for review by the author, so thank you so much, Haley, for sending this my way! I loved this book so much more than I thought I was going to. Its just absolutely amazing, and if you can handle adult content, I highly recommend you check this out. But let’s go ahead and get into the review!
“I shouldn’t want Addison this much. Or at all.
She’s my student, for god’s sake.
But she’s so sweet, so innocent, and so, so, bendable to my every whim.
Her mother wants her to be a doctor, but Addison? She has no idea what she wants.
I’ll help her find out, on one condition: I’m sure as hell going to be a part of it. Because I need her. I need to touch her, to taste her, to invade her soul the way she’s invaded mine.
Shakespeare said it best. I am her slave, with no choice to tend to her desires. Whatever they may be. ”
I don’t think I can properly put into words how this book made me feel. It was just everything I wanted and more. I loved the romance and I totally was not expecting for abuse to be a topic in this book, but I absolutely loved that it was in there. This is the kind of book I wanted and needed. I loved the characters and the storyline, and it was just absolutely freaking fantastic!
I think the writing for this book is so superior to so many other writers in this particular genre that I have read. I would personally classify this as both romance and erotica under the umbrella genre of New Adult. I have read my fair share of erotica, and the writing of this book just absolutely blew all other books out of the water for me. It is such an addicting writing style. I just could not stop reading. I just am obsessed with Haley Pierce’s writing style, and I just want to read more works by her.
I also really enjoyed the romance. It did not seem like instalove at all. I really enjoyed seeing their unconventional relationship expand and grow over the course of the novel. Usually, you will see a relationship begin with like dating and such and end with sex while this really reversed that. It was very much about the sexual attraction between these two and then it developed into a real relationship. It was so beautiful to read about, and I just loved it so much.
I think the abuse was super interesting to read about. This is a topic that some writers tend to shy away from, but Haley definitely did not do that. I think she really represented it well. It was also really interesting to see Cain’s perspective on this because I just kept waiting for it to finally click in his brain that she doesn’t have an abusive boyfriend. It is not who you would normally expect it to be. I liked seeing the process of him finally figuring it out and how angry he was at the person who was abusing her (that is a major spoiler, so I am definitely not revealing that). I just really liked the way it was presented in the novel, even if I do think that the abuser had a rapid evolution in her character at the end of the novel.
I also just really loved the way writing was presented in this novel. I loved seeing Cain explaining it and just seeing how passionate he was about the written word. It was just so amazing and inspiring to see, and it actually inspired me even more because I am also a writer who appreciates the written word and just the writing process. It was just an aspect I loved seeing, and it really added to the story, in my opinion.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I loved the writing, the complex and intricate storyline, the characters, and just everything about it. The writing was absolutely stunning and addicting as well, and I just really loved this book. I am super excited to read more works by Haley Pierce, and I highly recommend you all pick this book up because it was absolutely bloody fantastic!
