Top Five Fall Reads!

Hey, guys! I am super excited to talk about my favorite books I read during the fall season. The books that fall (pun totally intended) within this time frame are the books I read in September, October and November. In total, I read 22 books, which I am super proud of. I really enjoyed most of the books I read and there are five that definitely stood out to me. I am really excited to get into these books, so let’s just go ahead and jump right in!

5: The Forbidden Game by L. J. Smith

This is a bindup of the entire trilogy, but I am counting it as one book. This was a reread for me, and I loved it just as much the second time around as I did the first time I read it. This is a trilogy that follows this idiot group of teenagers that play this game they have no business messing with, and they end up getting sucked into the game and have to confront and beat their worst nightmares to escape it. It’s so great, so creepy, and such an interesting read that definitely gives me nightmares every time I read it. I am so glad I decided to reread it around Halloween because I really enjoyed it, and I ended up giving the series 4.5/5 stars.

4: The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

This is the first book in a companion series with this first one centered around a young bisexual aristocrat who is about to embark on his continent tour with a chaperone sent by his father, his sister Felicity, and his best friend Percy who he happens to be in love with. This story went to so many places I was not expecting, and it was just so action-packed and so freaking hilarious. I literally was laughing out loud throughout the entirety of this book along with my best friend because we were audiobooking it together, and it was just so great. I definitely enjoyed this even more than I thought I would, and I just loved it so much, and I ended up giving this 4.5/5 stars.

3: The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery

This book really messed with my feels. This is a children’s classic that really presents itself as this cute little story about a little prince with cute little illustrations. But then you get deeper into the book and it suddenly transforms into a super deep story about a little prince who learns all of these deep lessons about life, and it just made me so emotional! I was not expecting it at all and before I knew it, it was over. This was just a really cute story that I really enjoyed, and I highly recommend you check it out if you get the chance! I ended up giving this 5/5 stars.

2: This Monstrous Thing by Mackenzi Lee

This is a standalone novel that is a retelling of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and hot damn. This book was absolutely freaking amazing! I read this right after I read Frankenstein for the first time, and it was such a great experience, so I highly recommend you do that, but this book. THIS BOOK. It was just so interesting because its a steampunk retelling of Frankenstein with fantasy elements and diverse characters are thrown in as well. I just really loved the writing and the way Mackenzi Lee wove in the actual book Frankenstein into the novel as well as Mary Shelley. I thought it was just pure genius. This book just really captivated me, and I absolutely devoured it. It was just absolutely fabulous, and I ended up giving it 5/5 stars.

1: Moxie by Jennifer Matthieu

This is a standalone contemporary novel that follows high school student Vivan who is fed up with all of the sexism in her high school, so she creates this feminist ‘zine to fight back against it. This book was just my everything. From the incredible writing to how inspiring this book was, it was just absolutely amazing. I loved how empowering it made me feel as a woman and as a human being in general. I just really loved it, and I definitely think everyone should read this. It just was exactly what I needed, and I ended up giving this 5/5 stars, of course.
