Hey, guys! I am super excited to talk about all the books I read this summer because there were so many fantastic books. I honestly am glad I actually was reading this summer because as most of you probably know, the summer is always the worst time for me in regards to my reading because it puts me in the worst reading slump ever. But this summer seems to be the exception. It was just a really good summer reading-wise, and I am so excited to get into all of my thoughts on these books, so let’s just jump right on in!
The first book I read in June was A Marriage Most Scandalous by Victoria Vale.
This is the second book in the Scandalous Ballroom Encounters series, and it is one of my favorite adult romance series. As I am sure you can gather from the cover, this is a sexually explicit series that contains a lot of graphic imagery that may not be appropriate if you’re under the age of eighteen, so keep that in mind, but I really enjoyed this one! This is one of the best examples of a bisexual erotic romance novel without it being explicitly stated and/or fetishized. There were sex scenes between two women, and men and women both, and I thought that was really well done. You see the main character, Cecily, explore her own sexuality throughout the book, and I thought that was an extra element that was added to the story that I appreciated. Overall, I really enjoyed this and I gave it 4/5 stars.
The last book I read in June was Tempting Two by Victoria Vale.
This is the third book in the forementioned Scandalous Ballroom Encounters series, and it was actually one of my favorites of the whole series! This book obviously featured a love triangle, but I ended up not minding it in the end. This also explores one woman’s sexuality, and I think it is really showcasing how women were told to essentially sit down and shut up and that they “didn’t enjoy sex the way men did” it some bullshit like that and our main character really says, “fuck that” to the way that is portrayed in Victorian society at that time. She has lots of casual sex, and I love how sensually she is portrayed while also showcasing her as a real person and not just this incredibly sexualized pariah of Victorian society. Overall, I really enjoyed this, and I ended up giving it 4.5/5 stars.
The first book I read in July was Submitting to the Marquis by Victoria Vale.
This is the fourth book in the Scandalous Ballroom Encounters series, and it is one of my favorite books I have read this year. This one took me by surprise with the raw emotional impact I experienced whilst reading this. I was not expecting the emotional punch in the gut this one was, and I absolutely loved it! This book definitely has a massive trigger warning for physical abuse, sexual assault and sexual abuse, so definitely keep that in mind when reading this one, but I thought it was done so well. It was never something that was glossed over. You see the physical and psychological impact of going through such traumatic events as a child and how it has affected them as an adult, and I think that is really important. This book made me cry a lot. However, this book also has incredibly sensual used scenes related to BDSM, so if that makes you uncomfortable, I would stay away from this one. But if you can handle all of this, I highly recommend you check this one out because it was absolutely fantastic, and I gave it 5/5 stars.
The next book I read in July was Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han.
This is the third and final book in the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy, and in my opinion, it was the best one of the entire series! It gave me all of the emotions and it just really reminded me why I love this series so much. You could just see how much all of these characters have developed over the course of the series, and it was so beautiful and heartwarming to see Lara Jean maturing. I just love this book and this series so much. It was everything I wanted and more, and I highly recommend you check this series out because it is just so good! I did review this, and I obviously gave it 5/5 stars because it was so fantastic!
The last book I read in July was Torn by Jennifer L. Armentrout.
This is the second book in the Wicked Saga, and it was absolutely bloody fantastic! This is a sexy series full of faeries and badassery and love and friendship and betrayal and intrigue and I just love it so damn much. I just cannot express to you how good this series is. Its New Adult, so there is mature content, but it is just so worth it because the story is so addicting. I read this book in one day, and I loved every second of it! I did review this, and I gave it 5/5 stars, obviously. This is one for the books. Its definitely one of my favorite books of the entire year!
